Introduction

Numerous companies have attempted to implement Management of Change (MOC) processes at their facilities, with few obtaining sustainable results. While we didn’t address cultural considerations as part of our research survey, there are strong indications that significant challenges remain in 2021. We think the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic led to a behavioral change with a significant portion of the workforce still wanting to work from home. This isn’t going to make managing change any easier.

In advanced cultures, MOC extends beyond compliance to become an effective and efficient solution that can greatly improve profitability and drive down operating costs. MOC, when done appropriately, prevents many safety and environmental accidents from occurring each year.

A large portion of incidents occur during startup, shutdown, or abnormal operating modes. As such, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) are a crucial component of an effective MOC program.  Also, companies need to evolve beyond compliance with regulations like process safety to more formally manage Organizational Change.

This white paper explores more on the topic of Management of Change.
