Introduction

Process Safety Management (PSM) has been continually evolving since the early 1990s. Initially, it was based upon a model that included 14 elements, all focused on reducing the potential for hazardous incidents. Since then, numerous regulatory updates have been made to PSM and it has evolved into Risk-Based Process Safety (RBPS), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Vision 20/20 program.
