Introduction

For decades, companies have been working to improve their performance and benchmark against their peers to see how they compare.

Knowing where they stand can help companies target areas of improvement to achieve top quartile performance, which is important to attract external investments.

Operational Performance Management (OPM) is the alignment of the various business units within an organization in order to ensure that the units are collaboratively helping the company achieve a centralized set of shared goals.  With OPM, companies can be confident in their operating plan, without putting their privilege to operate at stake.  OPM also provides critical context for understanding the strategic value of detecting and preventing enterprise losses, including incidents, and then tying that understanding to financial outcomes (e.g., extended equipment outages due to supply chain issues or lost production).

This white paper explores OPM as an emerging approach that can leverage prescriptive analytics and big data to generate new insights into threats and the performance of assets – both human and machine.
